An Eagle Scout has Landed at BGCNW

Mt. Kisco, NY (February 22, 2010) – Luke Salvatore, a 9th grader at Rippowam Cisqua School, was awarded the rank of Eagle Scout, Scouting's highest honor, at a ceremony at the Boys & Girls Club of Northern Westchester (BGCNW) on Sunday, January 23, 2011. A member of Bedford Scout Troop 129 for five years, Luke recently completed his Eagle Scout service project, to design and build an outdoor amphitheater and Council Ring on the Club's grounds. Luke is a third generation Eagle Scout, following in his father and grandfather's footsteps. Luke also swims for the national champion Marlins swim team at the BGCNW and has been a member of the team for the past nine years.

The Council Ring that Luke designed and built for his Eagle Project will serve as a summer campfire spot and outdoor stage for members of the Club. With help from the Club and the leaders of Troop 129, Luke was able to complete his service project using recycled materials. He designed the project on Auto Cad, a program commonly used for 3D virtual design.

"The most memorable things I am taking from my experience of becoming an Eagle Scout are definitely the friendships and the Friday night scout meetings," said Luke about his favorite parts of Scouting.

From Washington, Senator Chuck Schumer raised a flag on Luke's behalf at the U.S. Capitol and sent a commemorative certificate congratulating him on his Eagle Scout rank.
