Leslie Cecil Selected as Club's Humanitarian of the Year
Mt. Kisco, NY (February 28, 2007) — Leslie Cecil of Bedford Corners, NY has been selected Humanitarian of the Year by the Boys & Girls Clubs of Northern Westchester. The Humanitarian Award is the highest honor given by the Club to its supporters.
Leslie Cecil will be recognized for her many years of outstanding service at the 13th annual Humanitarian Award Dinner, the Club's largest fundraising event. The gala will be held on Saturday, June 9, 2007, at the Saw Mill Club in Mt. Kisco.
Cecil has been an active board member of the Club since 1996. She serves on the Club's Executive Committee and Tarrytown Advisory Board. As Chair of the Program Committee for the last eight years, Cecil has been instrumental in ensuring the quality of services provided to Club members. Most recently, she spearheaded the campaign to keep the Tarrytown Center Club open. She helped secure the funds and form an advisory board of local leaders needed to continue serving children in that community.
Cecil is currently a partner in LCCM, Ltd., which markets husband, Creighton Michael's artwork. She previously owned her own gallery, the Leslie Cecil Gallery, featuring contemporary art. Cecil graduated from Brown University with a B.A. degree in Art History. She currently resides in Bedford Corners with her husband and son.
Cecil is active in the community and is passionate about supporting children's causes and education. Cecil holds board positions at Katonah Museum and the Jandon Foundation.
She formerly served on the Advisory Board for Jacob Burns Film Center.
This year's Dinner co-chairs are Muffin Ziminsky Dowdle (Pound Ridge), Beth Golde (South Salem), Heidi Johnston (Cross River) and Kim Kelly (Bedford Hills).
Last year's Humanitarian Dinner raised more than $700,000 for "The Positive Place for Kids". All proceeds from the event provide scholarships for children in need and support programs and services for more than 6,000 youths at the Club's three locations in Mount Kisco, Tarrytown, and Yorktown.
John and Amy Crabtree were honored at the 2006 Humanitarian Gala. Other past honorees include Muffin Ziminsky Dowdle, Skip and Michaela Beitzel, Peter and Sara Tucker, Ken and Margaret O'Gara, Kelly and Rick Wietsma, Kevin Bannon, Bonnie Trotta and Seema Boesky, Dana and Christopher Reeve, Carll and Diane Tucker, Kalman Fox, and Dan Hollis.
The Humanitarian Awards Dinner is open to all by advance reservation. The cocktail reception, which begins at 6:30 p.m., will be followed by a sit-down dinner. There will be an award presentation and dancing. Individual tickets are $350; sponsorship tables are also available.
