Club Celebrates Kisco Kids Café Opening at Junior League of Northern Westchester's Healthy Food Festival

Mount Kisco, NY (March 17, 2009) – The Junior League of Northern Westchester recently presented EveryBody in the Kitchen, a healthy living and eating festival hosted by the Boys and Girls Club of Northern Westchester. More than 300 people attended the festival, which was designed to celebrate and promote the consumption of locally grown healthy food within our community. A grand opening ceremony was also held for the Club's Kisco Kids Café, a new kitchen and cafeteria providing hot meals, healthy snacks, and nutrition classes for its members.

EveryBody in the Kitchen participants explored healthy and affordable eating options grounded in the local economy and agriculture. A farmer's market and diabetes presentation was paired with cooking demonstrations from local celebrity Executive Chefs Suvir Saran of Devi and Matthew Weingarten of Inside Park at St Bart's. The festival also offered tips on gardening in a small space. Activities for children continued the festival's theme of social and environmental sustainability.

Amidst the festival's activities, Club board members, staff, and children celebrated the opening of the Kisco Kids Café. Many of the organization's children come from low-income families. These members rely on the Club for after-school nutrition and oftentimes do not eat a hot meal at home. Over the next year, the Club will begin feeding 150 children daily in the Café and plan to increase that number to 300 within three years. In addition to providing healthy snacks and meals, the new Kisco Kids Café will serve as a teaching facility to host culinary and nutrition classes for Club members and their families.

The Boys & Girls Club of Northern Westchester's is located at 351 Main Street, Mt. Kisco, NY and can be reached at (914) 666-8069 or visit www.bgcnw.com.
