Club Receives $33,000 Mini-Grants from JCPenney Afterschool Fund — Donation Will Benefit More Than 100 Tarrytown and Mount Kisco Youth
Mount Kisco, NY (November 1, 2006) – The JCPenney Afterschool Fund has awarded mini-grants to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Northern Westchester's Tarrytown and Mount Kisco Centers in an effort to provide access to families who lack sufficient funds for after school child care programs at the club. These mini-grants, valued at $33,000, will serve 110 youth currently in need of financial assistance to participate in The Clubs' after school programs.
Funds from the mini-grants will cover Club membership fees, including staff supervision by full-time, trained youth development professionals; exposure to tried and proven programs; access to community service initiatives; transportation; snacks; and time spent in a safe, youth-centric building. Each mini-grant recipient will also receive a $100 JCPenney gift card, courtesy of J.C. Penney Company, Inc., to help with the purchase of clothing and supplies for the school year.
"We greatly appreciate J.C. Penney's generous contribution and ongoing support of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Northern Westchester," said Brian Skanes, Executive Director, Boys & Girls Clubs of Northern Westchester. The Club's after school program is vital to hundreds of families within our community who rely on it for the safety of their children as well as their livelihood."
Recent studies show that 14.3 million children in the U.S. are unsupervised between the hours of 3:00 and 6:00 p.m. each day. These mini-grants will allow children, who could otherwise be at risk for destructive behavior, access to safe, enriching and educational after school programs.
Boys & Girls Clubs of America has received support from the JCPenney Afterschool Fund for more than five years. High-quality after school programs keep children safe and produce life-changing, lasting benefits, including healthier lifestyles, improved social skills and enhanced academic performance. In its continuing effort to ensure that every child has access to quality after-school programs, the JCPenney Afterschool Fund will give more than 2 million dollars toBoys & Girls Clubs of America this year.
