Chappaqua Teen Donates $4,000 to the Boys & Girls Club of Northern Westchester

Mt. Kisco, NY (January 22, 2009) – Lily Wolfensohn (of Chappaqua), a 13 year-old student at Seven Bridges Middle School, recently donated $4,000 to the Boys & Girls Club of Northern Westchester. The donation, from the money given to Lily at her Bat Mitzvah, will go toward the organization's new Kisco Kids Café, scheduled to open this spring.

The Café will provide hot meals, healthy snacks, and nutrition classes for its members. Many of the Club's members come from low-income families. These children rely on the organization for after-school nutrition and many do not eat a hot meal at home. Over the next year, the Club will begin feeding 150 children daily at the Mt. Kisco Center and plan to increase that number to 500 within three years.

"When you have the chance to help someone, you should," said Lily Wolfensohn. "Every child deserves a hot meal. When I found out that the Boys & Girls Club was starting a kitchen to serve hot meals to kids that would otherwise go without, I wanted to help. I feel really good knowing that I have made a change in a child's life, even if they don't know it yet."

Lily is no stranger to community service. At age 13, she has already donated her hair to Locks of Love twice. Through her Girl Scout troop, she has made pillows, stars, and teddy bear magnets for the sick children at the Maria Fareri Children's Hospital. Her troop, 2810, has also sung to the children at Maria Fareri as well as at other area hospitals. Lily collected school supplies and was involved in planting a garden for the Katonah Community Center. She also sent letters to the soldiers in Iraq and donated Gift of Caring cookies to the Chappaqua Bus Drivers and Veterans. Most recently, Lily became a volunteer, along with her younger brother Ben, for Teen Alliance of Chappaqua. Lily is the daughter of Priscilla and Michael Wolfensohn, a Club board member and Councilman for the Town of New Castle. She has two brothers, Leo and Ben.

"Lily is truly a remarkable young lady," said Brian Skanes, Executive Director of the Boys & Girls Club of Northern Westchester. "She has done a magnificent job of demonstrating – even at such a young age – the value of putting others before self. She is an example to us all."
