Humanitarian Award Dinner Gears Up for June 7th
— Online Auction Goes Live!
Mt. Kisco, NY (May 5, 2008) – The Boys & Girls Club of Northern Westchester will hold its 14th annual Humanitarian Award Dinner on Saturday, June 7 at the Sleepy Hollow Country Club in Tarrytown.
The Club recently took their fundraising efforts to the internet with an online auction. The auction, which accompanies the traditional gala, features over 125 items that range from a golf game photographed by Jules Alexander to a Bahamas vacation or vintage Italian earrings. The dinner will recognize Laureen Barber of Pound Ridge, NY as this year's Humanitarian of the Year for her outstanding service and dedication. The Humanitarian Award is the highest honor given by the Club to its supporters. Barber, a Club Board member since 2005, chairs the Tarrytown Advisory Board and was instrumental in leading the turnaround of the Tarrytown Center after averting shut down in 2006. Barber has served as co-chair of the Humanitarian dinner committee for three consecutive years. Barber is an owner of the Blue Hill Restaurants, with locations in NYC and Tarrytown, and serves as Design Director for the Stone Barns Center for Food and Agriculture in Tarrytown, NY.
Assemblyman Adam Bradley has been selected to receive this year's John Beach Charity Award. The award, named for one of the Clubs' foremost supporters, was created in 1995 and is given to an individual, business or organization for generosity and commitment to the Boys & Girls Club of Northern Westchester.
This year's Humanitarian Dinner chair is Maria Roach (of Pound Ridge). Associate chairs include Bonnie Trotta (Mount Kisco), Sponsorships; Heidi Johnston (Cross River), Auction; Maria Roach (Pound Ridge), Decorations; Linda Mahon (Mount Kisco), Journal; and Christine Gelwicks (Bedford Hills), Logistics.

Last year's Humanitarian Dinner raised approximately $1.1 million for "The Positive Place for Kids". All proceeds from the event provide scholarships for children in need and support programs and services for 3,000 youths at the Club's four locations in Mount Kisco, Tarrytown, and Yorktown.

The Humanitarian Awards Dinner is open to all by advance reservation. This year's theme, "Positively Nutritious", continues the Club's programming for healthy living. The cocktail reception, which begins at 6:30 p.m., will be followed by a sit-down dinner. There will be an award presentation and dancing. The Boys & Girls Club of Northern Westchester was established in 1939 as a place for "boys to get off the streets." It is a non-profit organization dedicated to the service of all youth with a primary focus on children with special needs. The main unit in Mt. Kisco, NY is a 36,000-square-foot facility featuring an eight-lane pool, Child Care Center, gymnasium, games room, two computer labs and an additional 1,600-foot Teen Center facility. The Club has two satellite programs: a youth and teen center in the Yorktown Community Center; and a full service program at The Community Opportunity Center in Tarrytown, NY. The Boys & Girls Club of Northern Westchester serves more than 6,000 youths, boys and girls ages 6 months to 18 years, from more than 60 Northern Westchester communities. The Club has been ranked among the outstanding Clubs in the national network of Boys & Girls Clubs of America.
