Boys & Girls Club Children Learn the Art of Storytelling
"Kids Tell It" Event Kicks-Off Inaugural Sunflower StoryArts Festival in Mt. Kisco
Mount Kisco, NY (May 19, 2009) – Approximately eight children from the Boys & Girls Club of Northern Westchester recently had the opportunity to learn the art of storytelling from noted teacher, author, and storyteller Bob Reiser. Two upcoming performances will allow Club members to showcase what they've learned during the inaugural Sunflower StoryArts Festival, slated for Memorial Day weekend in Mt. Kisco.
The young "tellers" will present their tales at Borders Books & Music in Mt. Kisco on May 22, opening day of the three-day festival, from 3:30-4:15 p.m. in front of family, friends, fellow participants, and anyone browsing the aisles. Their final presentation will be at St. Mark's Church Fellowship Hall from 10-10:45 a.m. the following day as a special feature for younger festival goers. Reiser, who has collaborated with such notables as folk singer Pete Seeger and performed across the United States, helped the children hone their craft over the course of four workshops.
Bob Reiser has tickled audiences from New York to Vancouver with his unique and energetic recounting of new and old tales. His books, include Carry it On and Everybody Says Freedom, both written with Pete Seeger, as well as David Gets His Drum, a children's book written with Panama Francis. CDs include An Evening with Grandpa Abe and Uncle Ahmet, a compilation of Jewish and Muslim folktales and The Story Tree for young listeners.
Sunflower Story Arts Festival, co-directed by Alyssa Reit and Johanna Maria Rose, is a project of Singing Harp, a non-profit story theatre company. The Borders Books & Music performance is free and open to the public. Tickets for the St. Mark's Church Fellowship Hall performance are $5 each or $20 for a family package, which includes two adults and up to six children.
