Boys & Girls Clubs of Northern Westchester Development Director Karen Ward Named Fundraiser of the Year by ADO

Mount Kisco, NY September 26, 2005 — Karen Ward, Director of Development, Boys & Girls Clubs of Northern Westchester, has been selected as the Fundraiser of the Year by the Association of Development Officers (ADO).

The award will be presented Ms. Ward at the Association of Development Officers' Philanthropy Day Breakfast on Wednesday, November 15, 2005 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in White Plains, NY.

The Fundraiser of the Year Award is bestowed upon an individual who exemplifies dedication and service to the non-profit sector and professional fundraising community in the Hudson Valley region

"Without question, Karen Ward embodies the spirit of this award through her dedication and service, not only to our Club, but to the field of fundraising," said Brian Skanes, Executive Director of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Northern Westchester. "She literally built the development department from scratch and has presided over numerous successes."

Ms. Ward joined the Boys & Girls Clubs of Northern Westchester in 1996. Among her many achievements, she helped raise $6.9 million to expand and renovate the Club's Mount Kisco facility in 2000. She has also led the Club's annual Humanitarian Award Dinner that netted $9,000 in its first year (1995) and has grown to an $850,000 event. Likewise, the Club's annual appeal campaign has grown from $97,000 raised in 1996 to $340,000 raised in 2005. Ms. Ward also oversees the Club's marketing efforts.

Prior to joining the Club, Ms. Ward spent eight years managing campaigns to increase visibility and funding for major art museums and corporate sponsors for the arts. At the National Gallery of Art in Washington DC, she worked with museum officers to develop pioneering corporate sponsorship programs, which generated a fourfold increase in exhibition funding and made the National Gallery the world leader in corporate fundraising.

Ms. Ward has also been an integral part of the Club's management team. In addition to helping with the opening of satellite locations in Yorktown and Tarrytown, she also helped grow the Club's programming and expand its membership from 500 youths to 5,000. The Club's database, initiated by Ms. Ward, contains in excess of 12,000 donors.

Lydia Howie, co-president of ADO, said her organization is proud to honor Ms. Ward. "Karen's outstanding track record speaks for itself," she said. "Her work as a dedicated and innovative director of development for the Club is something to be commended."
